The Swiss mezzo-soprano discovered her passion for opera at an early age and made her opera debut at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts as Jenny Diver in „The Beggar’s Opera“ by B. Britten in a production by the Lucerne School of Music and the Lucerne Theatre during her bachelor’s degree.
After successfully completing her studies, the Opera St. Moritz engaged Anna Nero for the role of Eloisa in „Bianca e Fernando“ by G. Donizetti (conductor Thomas Herzog). Further engagements took the singer to the Hallwyl Castle Opera Summer Festival, where she sang the role of Tisbe in „La Cenerentola“ (G. Rossini) under the direction of Douglas Bostock. In spring 2019, the mezzo-soprano made a guest appearance at Lucerne Theatre as Annina in Verdi’s „La Traviata“ (conductor Clemens Heil). Under the direction of Christoph-Mathias Müller, Anna made her debut at Murten Classics in September 2020 as Orlofsky in „Die Fledermaus“ by J. Strauss.

In addition to the opera stage, Anna Nero is a sought-after concert singer. As a prelude to the concert evening with Anne- Sophie Mutter at the KKL Lucerne (2019), the singer and pianist Valeria Polunina presented „Sieben frühe Lieder“ by A. Berg and „Siete cançiones populares españolas“ by M. de Falla in the KKL Auditorium at the invitation of Migros Classics „Unsere Stars von Morgen“. In collaboration with „guerillaclassics“, she and pianist Judit Polgar performed a programme of various art songs by R. Strauss and A. Berg at the Kunsthaus Zurich as part of the opening of the exhibition „Oskar Kokoschka – A Retrospective“ (2019). Under the direction of Lena-Lisa Wüstendörfer, she sang the alto role in „Elijah“ by F. Mendelssohn at the Casino Bern in 2019. In autumn 2021, the singer was selected by the Orpheum Foundation for the concert series „young solists on stage“ to make her debut at the Tonhalle Zurich under the direction of Howard Griffiths with a selection from „El amor brujo“ by M. de Falla. She also sang the alto part in the Oratorio de Noël by C. Saint-Saëns at the Casino Bern at the Christmas concerts with Teo Gheorghiu under the direction of Lena-Lisa Wüstendörfer and made her debut in the alto part of the Donizetti Requiem at the KKL Lucerne under the direction of Philipp Klahm.

The conductor André Fischer engaged the soloist in 2023 for the traditional Christmas concerts of the Zurich Chamber Orchestra to sing arias by J.D. Zelenka and J.S. Bach (Christmas Oratorio) with the Zurich Chamber Orchestra at Fraumünster Zurich.

Away from the opera and concert stage, Anna Nero has had several opportunities as a young Swiss artist to sing the national anthem live before important matches. In 2017, for example, she sang at the ice hockey „play off“ games with live broadcast in Zug. In 2018, the mezzo-soprano again sang the anthem live with international broadcast at the NHL game between SC Bern and the New Jersey Devils in the Postfinance Arena Bern. In 2022, Anna performed again before the „play off“ games (EVZ – ZSC Lions) in Zug in the stadium and sang on the ice before the start of the game.

The singer won a sponsorship award from the Elvira Lüthi Wegmann Foundation while still a student. Anna Nero is a two-time winner of the Migros Culture Percentage talent competition, a scholarship holder of the Richard Wagner Society (Bayreuth) and a participant in the 2019 International Opera Workshop in Sigriswil.

She recorded the song „Tohuwabohu“ with Zurich rapper „Luuk“ for his album of the same name, which was released by Sony Music Entertainment in May 2022.
